Illustrated Merchandise FAQ

  • I’m only just starting out in illustration but I am keen to learn how to make and sell – will this course be a good fit for me?

Absolutely! No experience in product design is required – all you need is creative flair, a background in art, design or illustration and a passion for making! We’re open to students, recent grads, emerging creatives and established artists.

  • How much time is involved?

Illustrated Merchandise runs for 8 weeks from 5th June 2023. We meet on zoom every week, and set homework exercises and creative challenges along the way. Time commtiment is roughly 2-4 hours per week including our live zoom sessions.

  • Do I need to set aside extra time for homework exercises?

We recommend setting aside 1-2 hours per week for homework to get the most out of the course.

  • Is the course open to artists outside the UK?

Yes – we encourage it! Past students include artists and illustators from Melbourne, Los Angeles, NYC, Melbourne, Barcelona, London, Berlin, Bristol, Aberdeen, Tel Aviv, Helsinki and further afield.

  • When does the course start?

Artists will be invited to join Inkygoodness Collective on Monday 5th June 2023. Classes start on 7th & 8th June May. Doors to enrol close on Thursday 8th June at 5pm BST.

  • When do the live sessions run?

We run one session on a Wednesday morning at 10.30am BST, repeated on a Thursday evening at 6pm BST. Both sessions are delivered live on zoom, and all students enrolled will be invited to choose ONE session group prior to the course commencement.

Everyone on the course will also be invited to join our private makers group inside Inkygoodness Collective to connect and get to know one another, ask questions and chat inbetween live sessions and share homework exercises for discussion and feedback as we go!

  • Do I need to attend every live zoom session or will they be recorded?

We encourage live participation where possible! All live sessions will be recorded and a link to the replay will be sent out via e-mail within 24 hours (often immediately after the session has ended). All students enrolled will get lifetime access to the course content.

  • I’m already up and running with my online shop but need advice and tips on building my customer base – is this covered?

Yes we do! Our mentors and speakers will also be sharing their insight and experience on core topics including selling, marketing and sourcing suppliers.

  • Do you cover selling on platforms like Facebook and Instagram?

Absolutely! We will provide free downloads and easy to follow guides that cover selling in more detail – including how to present your products and photograph them on a budget.

Yes! We will cover art licensing and print on demand platforms – plus this year we also have an in-depth masterclass on Art Licensing for Illustrators lead by Jessica Miller; one of our guest speakers and mentors this year.

  • I’ve done a few courses already – what makes this one different?

Our courses are community focused which gives you an unrivalled learning experience to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing within a growing global community. Every week you will be invited to share your progress, pool resources, answer polls, give advice and ask questions. You’ll not only gain access to a private group exclusive for artists enrolled on the course – you’ll also get access to the full Inkygoodness Collective experience which includes over 12 hours of design talks, tonnes of articles and resources, access to upcoming events and workshops – and joining a friendly space to connect with likeminded creatives!

  • How much group activity will there be?

Each week we will set creative challenges and homework exercises, and along the way there will be group discussions, breakout rooms and many opportunities to get to know other artists on the course.

  • Can I access all the content in one go, or is it dropped as we go?

We deliver live content every week – there is currently no option to download all the course content in advance – however you’re more than welcome to do the exercises and challenges slower / at your own pace – but we do encourage live participation from all our students every week to get the most out of the course.

  • Is the course self paced or do I need to commit to weekly sessions?

See above.
