‘MASKS’ is Ben Newman’s first solo exhibition in three years and will feature collaborations with Felt Mistress, Sahar Freemantle and his father, Colin Newman. Opening this Thursday 15th September, the show will be hosted at the Nobrow Gallery, 62 Great Eastern Street and will also be featured as part of the London Design Festival which runs 17th – 25th September.

Ben lives and works in Bristol as a freelance illustrator, who spends his time watching old westerns and reading pulp detective novels. His work has been described as “radically fuzzy felt bauhaus-folk illustration”, mixing handmade textures and geometric shapes with digital rendering techniques. On his blog, Ben describes his collaboration with Felt Mistress as “a dream project.. back in 2008, I was exhibiting alongside Felt Mistress in a Christmas show and completely fell in love with her monsters and her ability to visualise and create these incredible beasts in three dimensions and only using felt!”

Felt Mistress has created three Yokai from his book, The Bento Bestiary (published by No Brow and available to buy HERE). Check out this sneak preview shot of the terrifying Taimatsu Maru (above).

Full details for the LDF can be found HERE and extra previews of the exhibition can be found on Ben’s BLOG . All the prints featured in the ‘MASKS’ exhibition will be available to buy from Ben’s online SHOP from September 16th onwards.
MASKS opens at No Brow Gallery, 62 Great Eastern Street, London, Thur 15th September from 6.30pm – 9.30pm. Show runs until 11th November.
