Featured artist: Dawn Gardner

Dawn Gardener has recently graduated with a First Class Honors  BA Hons in Graphic Design, specialising in print based design and illustration, with a particularly keen interest in collage and typography. Dawn takes pleasure in recycling imagery, and combining it with digital techniques to “reinvent the original material into new visual narratives, exploring the ways in which dissimilar elements can work together within a new context and for a new audience.”

Dawn continues; “Although I find cutting and pasting by hand therapeutic, I prefer to complete the majority of my illustrations digitally after scanning all of my desired material from various collections of vintage books and magazines. This provides me with a greater degree of flexibility when incorporating this with other typographic / layout features”

Her recent illustration ‘Flower Paper’ (above) was created during a recent internship at YCN agency in London, designed to wrap bouquets by The Flower Appreciation Society. Her work is quickly attracting attention, and has already been featured in Creative Review, Digital Arts Magazine and numerous blogs and independent publications, in addition to receiving wide acclaim at this year’s New Designers expo. With a growing reputation, and several commissions already under her belt, we have no doubt that Dawn is has a stellar career ahead of her!
