We braved the Bank Holiday crowds and popped up to London this weekend to check out a host of new exhibitions! First on our list The Book Club, currently playing host to a new exhibition of work by legendary French illustrator Mc Bess. ‘The Folding Knife’ is inspired by childhood memories; “ (the show) contemplates both current and childhood memories from which the title of the exhibition was born. A folding knife was a childhood keepsake of Mattheui’s and also reflects the detailed nature of this work”

Mc Bess fans will not be disappointed with the sheer quantity and quality of work on display, which includes a beautiful collection of small, detailed ink drawings, intricate canvas illustrations and customised objects such as a guitar and wall mural. Mc Bess is one of the most prolific individuals we have ever had the pleasure to meet, dividing his time between freelance commissions, collaborative projects with the likes of Dude’s Factory and No Brow, a full time role at design agency The Mill and playing live with his band the Dead Pirates.

The Book Club venue itself is a cosy eatery & bar, boasting a menu of all-day breakfasts, tasty lunches, juices, smoothies and a selection of beers – the perfect spot to relax over brunch on a Saturday morning. The exhibition runs until 18th September and is definitely worth the trip!
