EAST Editions take inspiration from Bali to launch Little Editions

Believing that there is no better way than traveling to learn about the world, Australian artist Brad Eastman, together with his partner Kelly Eastman, decided to pack up his house and life in Sydney and take off on an adventure to Bali.

That was six months ago, and since arriving the pair quickly fell in love with the handicraft skills of the local Indonesian men and women, which gradually planted the seed of an idea to launch Little Editions – the first kids range derived from their successful East Editions brand.

Working with artists from Australia and around the world, East Editions produces limited edition artist creations for your spaces. The venture which launched in 2014 has seen the pair collaborate with a growing collection of impressive artists on items including custom tables, screen printed cushions, hand made lamps and storage boxes – all produced as limited editions.

Collaborating with artist Numskull on a bold, colourful and fun screen printed collection of clothing and bedding, their first kids range involved an extensive planning and production process, as director Kelly Eastman reveals on their Little Editions website:

“We already had such a love for screen printing from previous EAST EDITIONS collaborations, we knew that our first edition needed to be screen printed,” reveals Kelly, as she mentions that a trip to see a large fabric screen printing warehouse in Denpasar sealed their idea. “Our good friend and amazing artist Numskull (Elliott Routledge) was the first person that came to mind when we were developing the concepts for our first little edition.”

Embedded with tangled scribbles of primary colours, gradient filled shapes and geometric patterns, Kelly says that “straight away, they could envision what his artwork would look like on kids clothes and knew it would be the perfect fit for little editions.”

Travel has always been important to us, and when we had kids, we knew we wanted to instill in our boys that passion for exploring new places.

Inspired to be bold and creative and to most importantly have fun, the first edition includes a dress, shirt and quilt cover, made with 100% organic cotton fabric from a fabric warehouse in Denpasar.

Our aim for little editions is to create wearable, interactive and functional art for kids, so they are inspired and empowered by what they are wearing (or sleeping on).

Numskull’s Dress, Shirt and Quilt Cover Set are now available to purchase online including FREE shipping within Australia and Indonesia. We hope you enjoy these process images of little edition 001 being created in Bali.
