Tease Made Exhibition @ Start Gallery, Bristol

In just three days the brand new Start The Bus gallery space opens with TEASE MADE, and exciting new show by Peskimo and Chris Dickason. For those attending the opening night extravaganza Peskimo have promised some special treats to reward the early birds! Crumpet Cakes have contributed 100 cup cakes, specially colour coordinated with the work on show. Beautiful prints and original artworks will be on sale - the first 20 purchasers get a free goody bag! Exhibition opens on Friday 19th March at 6.30pm @Start the Bus.

If that’s not enough excitment for your Friday night, the party continues at Start the Bus bar with the Detectives of the Perspective. Their debut show sees Rukus Roboticus (Solid Steel) fly in from the USA to play live for the first time this side of the pond, with live digital drawing by illustrator Docvek - not to be missed!

Inkygoodness are proud to announce their chosen venue for this year’s exhibition! Our next show will take place at the popular EAST Gallery in Shoreditch from Friday 3rd September - Sunday 12th September. The Wonder Club: A Lamentable Tragedy

Last Saturday I was invited to attend a performance by The Wonder Club, at the old Motorcycle workshop in Stokes Croft. The space has recently been taken over by the group and transformed into a magical wonderland of installation art and site-specific theatre. The performance was simply beautiful, set against a backdrop of illustration and installation by Bristol artists Dave Bain and the 145 collective.

15-Minute Profiles | British Illustrators @ Arnolfini

We popped down to Arnolfini in Bristol last night for a lovely evening of ‘15 minute profiles’ of four brilliant British illustrators, including the super talented John McFaul and Paul Davis. Inspiring stuff for students and freelancers alike, it was refreshing to listen to their brief insights into the world of illustration, and the highs and lows of commerical work.

The evenings highlights included live drawing by Simon Splisbury and Adrian Johnson’s witty anecdotes on drawing what he loves most (knights and mexicans) to keep his ideas fresh. An exhibition of their work is now on show at Mauger Modern Art in Bath until March 16th. Featuring the work of Noma Bar, Paul Davies, Adrian Johnson, John McFaul and Simon Splisbury. Not to be missed!

Amelias Anthology of Illustration - Review

It was with great anticipation and delight that we delved into the pages of Amelias Anthology of Illustration, a new book created and designed by Amelia Gregory. Illustrating the exciting and innovative ways we can work together to beat climate change, this stunning volume brings together the unique vision of 40 illustrators and their insights into renewable technology.

Herself a climate activist, Amelia Gregory (publisher, art director, graphic designer and creator of Amelia’s magazine) was inspired by her years working with illustrators on Amelia’s magazine, and her belief that “Illustrators are perfectly placed to make these new renewable technologies tangible to a wider audience”. The result is a fun, colouful and informative book on climate change, with a good balance of scientific fact and candid interviews with talented illustrators.

The beautiful illustrations by Karolin Schnoor (Sea Green image, pictured) and Ana Botezatu, (above) were particularly impressive. The book is bursting with hand drawn artwork and has a very crafty feel throughout. All in all it’s a lovely, informative read, and one that I hope will provide creative inspiration for many years to come.

Art for Haiti - Call for Donations

Artist Sarah Larnach (of Ladyhawke fame), who lost family members in last week’s earthquake, is co-ordinating a global art auction that we are supporting to raise funds for those affected by the disaster. We are asking illustrators, artists, designers and craft-makers to donate a piece of artwork for auction to help raise money for Haiti. George Mitchell - Zine box

George Mitchell sent over this lovely pic of a box he recently designed as part of some product design work at the Lighthouse display in Nottingham. He was lucky enough to watch his zine box being cut out on the industrial plotter and printed on their industrial digital press. We think it’s a great idea, and we’re looking forward to seeing his next project.

Celebrate the new year by taking a trip down to the Weapon of Choice gallery in Bristol this January! Bristol artist & illustrator Andy Council returns with his solo show at Weapon of Choice Galler entitled ‘Mega City Fauna’. Andy brings us his beasts on a large and small scale and the result is a menagerie of the Bristol creatures rendered in a collectable and affordable way - a must see for fans old and new.
