ELCAF returns on 10th, 11th & 12th June with Jean Jullien & many more

ELCAF turns five this year (we can't believe it either), and founders Nobrow are pulling out all the stops for an incredible weekend of visual eye-candy focusing on the best visual talent in comics and independent publishing.

To celebrate their 5th birthday, ELCAF will run over a jam-packed three days on 10th, 11th and 12th June, bringing a swathe of home-grown and international creative talent under one roof at the Round Chapel in Hackney.

Expect design talks, pop-up stalls, workshops, handmade zines, prints and more at affordable prices – and new for this year – springboard meetings, giving attendees the opportunity to present their portfolios to a panel of industry experts.

Confirmed artists include Dieter Braun, Adrian Tomine, Lorena Alvarez, Biografiktion and many, many more – and of course the brilliant Jean Jullien who is this year’s artist-in-residence and the designer of this year’s festival identity. Official totes featuring his artwork will also be up for grabs for the first few visitors through the door!

In it’s fifth year, ELCAF is spreading it’s wings to embrace children’s book illustrator and the publishers who promote their work, as well as the world of digital arts.

And that’s not all – for the first time ever, ELCAF have launched The ELCAF Award. Exciting stuff indeed. A selection of prizes will be available for artists and independent publishers excelling in their fields.

The festival is the culimination of the ELCAF season which kicked off in May, with workshops at Urban Village Fete and an exhibition at NOW Gallery by Marqaux Carpentier. There’s a free drop-in workshops at Hackney Central and Dalson Libraries, Masterclasses and a joint school programme at the House of Illustration.

It’s incredible to think that ELCAF launched just four years ago. What started life as a one day event has grown to become one of the leading festivals of it’s kind in the UK, attracting over 3, 000 visitors ever year. The festival continues to spotlight emerging talent and celebrate the dynammic community of individual artists and collectives that are pushing the boundaries – and we’re super excited to check out this year’s offering and see what’s in store.

ELCAF opens on Firday 10th June and runs until Sunday 12th June. Full weekend pass £10, day ticket £5.
