We’ve had lots of questions about our upcoming Bootcamp — and we’re here to help you decide if it’s right for you!
Whether you’re just starting out, looking to build your portfolio, or ready to take your illustration career to the next level, this Bootcamp is designed to give you structure, creative confidence, and the accountability you need to make real progress.
Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about time commitment, fitting the Bootcamp around a busy schedule, accessibility for international participants, and what to expect when you join us!
Q: I’m fairly new to illustration – can I still join?
Absolutely! Make Your Mark Bootcamp is designed for emerging and practising illustrators, designers, animators and creatives as well as designers or teachers who are pivoting into illustration.
Whether you’re just starting your creative journey or looking to refresh your portfolio, this Bootcamp will give you the structure, guidance, and accountability you need to grow.
You’ll leave with up to five strong portfolio projects, new skills, and a clear understanding of how to position yourself as a commercial illustrator — ready to pitch, publish and collaborate with clients.
Q: What kind of creative briefs will we be working on?
You’ll have the opportunity to tackle up to five in-depth industry briefs created in collaboration with leading art directors and agencies.
Each brief is designed to mirror real-world illustration projects — from brand campaigns and editorial assignments to conceptual storytelling and packaging projects. You’ll receive feedback at key stages (mood boards, sketches, colour roughs and finals) to help you refine your work and push your creative thinking.
By the end, you’ll have a polished portfolio that clearly showcases your style, concept development and creativity – ready to pitch to your dream clients.
Q: Who will be guiding us through the Bootcamp?
Bootcamp is delivered and hosted by Inkygoodness founder and creative coach Lisa Hassell, who will be your mentor throughout the programme.
Lisa brings over a decade of experience supporting illustrators and creative professionals through coaching, courses, and industry partnerships. She’ll guide you step-by-step through each stage — from idea development to final presentation — offering feedback, motivation, encouragement, and practical advice to help you stay on track.
You’ll also hear from leading illustrators, art directors, and agency partners who will share real-world insights and feedback during live sessions and masterclasses.
Q: I work full time – is this something I can fit around my job?
Yes! Many of our Bootcampers have full-time jobs or family commitments.
The Bootcamp has been designed to be flexible and achievable — with a mix of live sessions, replays and self-paced creative briefs.
Expect to spend around 4–6 hours per week, depending on your pace and goals. Some weeks will feel more intense than others (especially around deadlines), but everything is recorded and accessible anytime, so you can catch up when it suits you.
We know life gets busy — so our team and community are here to help you stay motivated and on track, even when things get hectic.
Q: I’m not based in the UK / English isn’t my first language – can I still join?
Of course! The Bootcamp is open to illustrators worldwide.
All sessions are run in English, but we keep the language clear and conversational, and you’ll have access to recordings, slides and subtitles on all replays to review at your own pace.
We also welcome a wonderfully diverse mix of artists each round — previous cohorts have included creatives from Sydney, London, Beijing, Tokyo, Vancouver, Madrid, Athens, Berlin and further afield — and it’s a brilliant way to meet and connect with a truly global community.

Q: What if I can’t make the live sessions?
No problem! All sessions are recorded and uploaded within a few hours of the event. You’ll have lifetime access to the replays, resources, and feedback.
Many participants choose to watch replays and join the discussion threads in our online community instead — so you’ll never miss out on learning or feedback opportunities.
Q: How much time should I set aside each week?
Here’s a rough guide:
-
Live sessions: 1–1.5 hours each week
-
Creative briefs and project work: 3–5 hours per week
-
Community activities, feedback and reflection: 1–2 hours per week
That’s an average of 5–7 hours weekly — but it’s flexible. You can scale up or down depending on your goals, availability, and how much you want to put in.

Q: What skills do I need to take part?
A basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, or Procreate) is recommended.
Don’t worry if you’re not a pro — we’ll share guides and tutorials to support you with mockups, file prep, and presentation. You’re also welcome to combine traditional and digital techniques — paint, collage, or printmaking are all encouraged.
Q: What happens if I fall behind?
It’s totally fine! Bootcamp is designed to support your creative rhythm, not punish you for missing a week.
You’ll have 12 months access to all recordings and resources — so you can take breaks, catch up later, or revisit content when you’re ready. Our mentors and community will be cheering you on every step of the way. We’re building in dedicated integration weeks during the programme designed to give you space to reset, catch up and apply what you’re learning.
