Expect to learn from leading art directors and illustration commissioners within the editorial, publishing, advertising and branding industry.

Let’s meet your mentors!

Confirmed Mentor & Speaker, Adele Juraza – Lead Designer at Ferment magazine

Adele is the lead designer at Ferment, a craft beer magazine where she works closely with illustrators from around the globe every month to create striking covers and engaging spreads for each issue. Her work at Ferment has helped the magazine stand out in the competitive world of magazine publishing. In addition to her work at Ferment, Adele often designs and commissions craft beer labels, bringing her creativity directly into the hands of Beer52 craft beer members.

Originally from Riga, Latvia, Adele now resides in Edinburgh, UK, after spending some time living in the South of France. She graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 2019 with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design. In 2022, her talent was recognised when she won the Designer of the Year award at The PPA Scotland Awards.

Before joining Ferment, she was the Art Director of The Philosophers’ Magazine, an independent quarterly publication founded in 1997 that aims to present philosophy in an accessible and entertaining format.

With a decade of freelance experience in print and digital design, Adele has developed a robust skill set and a passion for collage art, which she often incorporates into her work, adding a unique and personal touch to her designs.

“I look forward to meeting new artists and sharing my experience and knowledge with them as well as seeing how they interpret a cover brief. Having worked with numerous illustrators over the past decade, I have gathered a wealth of stories and tips. I’m excited to use these insights to help Make Your Mark Bootcamp participants improve or kickstart their careers in illustration!”

– Adele Juraza

Adele will join us on Thursday 11th July for an industry talk about how she commissions illustrators, along with an overview of Ferment magazine and a showcase of past magazine covers, and be on hand to answer your questions about working withing editorial illustration.

She will then present our first Creative Brief for Make Your Mark Bootcamp, setting you a live project to create an illustrated cover for a future issue of Ferment magazine,

The briefing will be followed by two live zoom feedback sessions to give you advice, direction and support at sketch stage, and colour draft stage before reviewing your final submissions – with a potential opportunity to secure a paid commission for Ferment magazine later this year!
