Bristol design agency Fiasco Design re-brand Tobacco Factory Theatres

Award winning creative agency Fiasco Design have just released behind the scenes footage of their bold re-brand for Tobacco Factory Theatres.

Commissioned to design wall graphics and signage for the Bristol based Factory Theatre and bar/cafe area, the team were also asked to design easy to navigate signage for the building.

Commissioned by Tobacco Factory Theatres in January 2015, Fiasco Design undertook an initial research period. They responded with a brand book which had a single organsing thought at the centre. ‘Creativity rooted in tradition’ The team used it as a jumping off point for their design process to create a visual identity. Used it to reflect the companies 10 year history as a cultural leader in the South West.

Building on themes such as assembly, collectivism and diversity, Fiasco designed a custom display typeface – Assembly – with two weights: Outline & Regular, as Ben Steers revealed. “The font was born from the idea that the effectiveness of the organisation is made up by it’s various different activities within the local community.”

The individual shapes that are used to make up the letterforms represent the collective nature of the organisation.

Fiasco Design created a new typeface ‘Assembly’ to “represent the collective nature of the organisation.”

Assembly has been used throughout Tobacco Factory Theatre’s new identity. From use within the logotype to stationary, building signage and other printed applications and online.
