Creative Briefs
Our self paced editorial comic illustration course gives you access to two creative briefs set by New York Times Art Directors at Sarah Williamson and Kathy Lee and Masterclass speakers Aysha Tengiz, Bianca Beneduci Assad & Hyesu Lee.
Here’s what you’ll be working on:
- An editorial comic inspired by the theme of Wellness set by Sarah Willamson, Freelance Art Director at New York Times Well.
- An editorial comic based on the Connections word puzzle set by Kathy Lee, Senior Art Director at New York Times Games.
- Drawing Exercises set by Aysha Tengiz & Bianca Benduci Assad to flex your skills on Character Design and Visual Storytelling
- Plus access recorded lessons on Ideation & Vignettes, Character Development & Storytelling lead by Inkygoodness Creative Director Lisa Hassell to empower you to illustrate personal stories through the medium of comics.
In our video sessions, our guest Art Directors will guide you through the process of illustrating editorial comics via recordings of our live feedback sessions and Q&A’s to support your creative development every step of the way – from sketches to story development; working with characters and mastering colour to create your final illustrated comics for two creative briefs set by New York Times.
Plus dive into three in-depth Illustration Masterclasses with established illustrators Bianca Beneduci Assad, Aysha Tengiz and Korean comic illustrator Hyesu Lee, as they take you through their creative process and share case studies of client work for leading publications including It’s Nice That, Bon Appetit and The Washington Post.
We’re also delighted to welcome illustrator Charlotte Ager on board as a co-host and mentor who joined our course for three workshops where she provides creative direction, guidance and feedback along the way as you progress through each brief.
